Substitute Teacher | 09/2016 - Current
While seeking a new position in marketing, I found myself wanting to do more than attend interview after interview and decided to spend some time in the classroom, giving back to my community and engaging young minds.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching, especially as a substitute, as it provides a daily opportunity to present information to a group that is predisposed to question my very presence in the classroom. Rather than depend on legitimate power, I actively engage my audience, seeking common ground and relevance between their interests and the material I am to present/teach. Every day is different from the last to the next.
My primary responsibility is to provide a safe environment. Second, I am to teach the lesson plan as outlined by the permanent teacher. I have found the ability to speak Spanish to be very helpful, as well as the ability to engage the students, energizing them and giving them the motivation necessary to excel in their daily tasks.
