As educators, we have a responsibility to prepare our students for a world increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI literacy is no longer just a valuable skill—it is essential for future success. Students who cannot use AI effectively will be at a significant disadvantage in both their academic and professional lives, and they may struggle to compete in a workforce that relies heavily on technology-driven problem-solving and innovation. For this reason, all educators must recognize the importance of teaching students to use AI as a powerful tool to enhance their learning and to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape. To do this well, we must first deepen our own understanding of AI—its origins, its development, and its wide-ranging impact on society. Before we can guide students, we must be knowledgeable about the technology itself. Two books in particular, The Age of AI and Genesis, offer exceptional insight. They clearly explain the different types of AI (yes, there are several) and explore both the opportunities and challenges this technology presents across every sector of society. I strongly believe that educators—and truly anyone interested in understanding the future—should read these books.
