Roark Run Amok x Black Sabbath Release

How do you connect technical running gear with a heavy metal band? That was the challenge with this special collaboration with Black Sabbath and Roark Run Amok. 

Creating the tagline 'It Runs Through Our Veins', I wanted to convey the concept that anyone can be a die-hard fan of a band, there's no formula. Taking this idea, we worked to create a commercial that made the viewer connect with that feeling of hearing your favorite song from your past, that makes you move and brings all fans together over that common emotion. The result was an amazing success both from connecting with a wide audience of runners and Sabbath fans, as well as ROI at retail.

The best part? Licensing a Black Sabbath song on a shoestring budget for this. And getting a few friends to participate in the project!

Beyond just the commercial, I planned and executed the launch party at Zeitgiest in SF, complete with a billboard takeover, live bootleg tee screenprinting, a performance by a Black Sabbath cover band, and a 20 foot wall installation of concert poster inspired graphics. The media coverage alone helped carry this collaboration to new heights, but it was supported by extremely well designed and strong product that made this project so successful.

'Absent Without Leave'

Winner of the 'Kiwi Film Maker Of The Year Award' (congrats Finlay Woods).

Campaign film produced for Roark in conjunction with their seasonal launch of their NZ-inspired collection 'AWOL In Aotearoa'. Alongside this film, I directed and produced the trip that was documented and showcased in global film festivals. We launched the film with a digital premiere, teaming up with media partners for exclusive promotions as well as key retailers for brand-centric events, helping to tell an authentic adventure story based on the South Island of New Zealand. The soundtrack was consciously created using only NZ-based bands, and the characters the team met along the way further enhanced the organic aspects of exploration.

Run Amok 'Baja Short' Commercial

A fun, short commercial for a new pair of running shorts by Roark Run Amok. Co-produced the shoot, and put together the production team and talent. 

Provided the overall tone and direction of the commercial spot and executed the eventual release in conjunction with retail and sales teams both online and in DTC stores.

Roark's In Home Seasonal Catalogs

Twice a year I directed the creation of Roark's in home mailer 'The Guide Book', a biannual catalog that blends authentic storytelling alongside premium campaign photography and studio product photography, showcasing the season's premiere products by Roark, Run Amok & Roark Womens.

Creative Direction, majority of copywriting, pagination and campaign shoots were all handled by myself alongside the Art Director and Co-Founder.

I'm a die hard creative thinker, having spent my career taking calculated steps to better understand all aspects of the marketing environment. But creative marketing isn't just fun ideas, it's a way to problem solve - to look at the challenge before you and come up with out of the box solutions that are purpose-driven, authentic and worthwhile, both for the brand and for the end consumer. It's a way to communicate to your audience, and bring them into the conversation. In my nearly 20 years of experience in the action sports industry, I've learned firsthand from retail to wholesale how to engage a brand with its community, and I'm excited to bring forth this knowledge in my next endeavor. The past three years, I've been the Marketing Director for Roark, a modern adventure lifestyle clothing company that coupled authentic stories of travel with inspired and purpose built product. From planning and executing each campaign, be it an 18-day off grid trip through NZ, or a running gear collaboration with Black Sabbath, bringing the brand's voice to life in a way that connected with Roark's fast-growing audience became my passion. Creating and managing budgets, retail activations and GTM calendars for all divisions allowed me to build a strong foundation in cross-departmental collaboration, but still left room for creative copywriting that defined the brand voice and tone.

Organized project timelines for all product releases and tracked deliverables from start to finish to support advertising, retail and DTC needs.

Negotiated with advertising partners to develop successful rollout strategies and campaigns to increase ROI.

Oversaw global omni-channel rollout of the Rising Seas campaign, winner of the 2019 SIMA Mens Marketing Campaign of the Year.
