Cordell

I’ve been involved with idea generation and the mechanical design/ development of a wide variety of products ranging from skis and snowboard bindings, to military flight simulators for over 19 years.

I do my best to keep on top of the current market trends and frequently attend SIA. I am quite familiar with designing a product to meet the needs of an action sports enthusiast, as I have worked closely with these customers in the past, and am one myself. My aerospace and DOD background have provided me know-how with composites, close tolerances, and critical design specs. Furthermore, I have experience working on-site with the manufacturing line in Asia, and know how to handle manufacturing challenges, even with potential cultural barriers at hand.

-Utilized Solidworks and Rhino to design leading snowboard bindings, safety helmets, boots, and protective gear for snow, skate, and bike industries. -Ensured function, performance, & quality goals for product were met. -Researched, designed and identified new technology and paths applicable to the market. -Maintained practical concern for technical processes & manufacturing requirements. -Evaluated material costs, physical characteristics & functions to specify appropriate materials. -Watched market trends, identified material sources and applications, tested helmets and made recommendations to lead the future of product lines. -Managed technical teams to ensure proper build and repair.

(Contract Employment) -Designed and re-engineered prototype defense missile components using Pro Engineer 2001. -Prepared engineering changes, provided shop floor with necessary information to build improved Booster Vehicle program missiles. -Prepared and reviewed red-line drawings on existing engineering for previously failed program. -Incorporated changes using EPDM design change tracking program. -Used BRIO (parts database) and MIL-spec data sheets to determine part availability and lead-time. -Worked with shop floor employees, production engineers, management, and parts personnel to incorporate changes on time, ensuring deadlines were met, and process flows were completed smoothly.

(Contract Employment) -Provided mechanical engineering support to the Army Research Laboratories (ARL) and the Survivability and Lethality Analysis Directorate (SLAD). -Supported ballistics survivability/vulnerability analysis for several programs including the MAZ-543, IAV lineup, and various Red targets. -Prepared Criticality Analyses, Damage Assessment Lists, Deactivation diagrams. -Supported the Army in conducting ballistics analysis on mission-essential materials, including assessment of system vulnerability and suggestion of appropriate design changes. -Produced component probability of kill calculations using engineering analysis and COMPKIL software. -Utilized BRL-CAD 3D modeling software to perform vulnerability analysis and assessment. -Produced technical reports and briefings for the DoD and DoD Contractors.

(Contract Employment) -Designed and re-engineered prototype flight simulator components using Pro Engineer 2000i2. -Organized drawing package of SH-60B flight simulator project for shop technician use. -Provided support and guidance for shop technician team. -Interfaced with vendors, shop technicians, management, purchasing, and the electrical engineering team. -Ensured that all schedules and deadlines were met. -Created parts kits to ensure ease of assembly for shop technicians. -Obtained and organized quotes from various businesses for needed parts. -Obtained "hands on" experience of mechanical buildup of simulators. -Managed and organized Pro Engineer COTS parts models for entire company. -Assisted in the implementation of ISO certification. -Managed electrical and mechanical technical teams (14 personnel).

(Co-Op Employment) -Designed and manufactured oxygen tanks for circumnavigational hot air balloon expedition. -Created and implemented preventative maintenance (PM) program for hundreds of manufacturing machines. -Designed and built tank managing machinery to improve plant safety and turnaround time. -Gained CAD experience and acquired welding/machining skills. -Gained sales and research experience through contact with vendors and locating material through catalogs. -Participated in Kaizen continual improvement program.
