I started my career in an untraditional way from the typical college path, and it was the best thing I ever did.

While my peers had yet to work, I was using the will power and resilience I used from a lifetime of skateboarding to rise through the ranks of a "small" family-owned grocery store into a management position. Through my skateboarding career I was taught not only how to try things multiple times while making strategic changes to get a different outcome, but also how to make and strengthen connections over time that could lead to bigger and better opportunities. 

I took this knowledge, as well as a history of managing parents, kids, and staff alike at a summer camp, into my first launching point. I was able to use these skills to quickly grow from my entry level position into full time management of a direct staff of 15 people, but at times the 100+ staff of the whole store, to deliver consistent and excellent customer experience.

But I wanted more, I had hit a ceiling and was looking for challenge and growth.

I went back to school to finish my Bachelors, ultimately receiving it from the University of California San Diego in 2020, while simultaneously starting a journey at a startup and disrupter in the analog tech solutions space.

Suddenly, I was able to combine not only my history of customer service but the creative marketing side that I had used while growing my skateboarding career. As a startup, I was given tasks from everything to daily CS and Warehouse emails, to writing the weekly blogs and designing the emails. I was able to grow into this new position and into the person I am today, where I am writing the brand copy for the website, B2C, B2B, and D2C deliverables, designing and implementing best practices for email marketing, designing and writing Go-To-Market campaigns for new launches, producing/shooting/directing and editing content, managing our 3PL relationship, and interacting daily with our customers.

Little did I know that when I started this journey, I would also be beginning the biggest chapter of my life. Shortly after being accepted into UCSD, and starting my career at SLNT, I found out I was going to be a father. This has been the single greatest journey of my life and I would not be who I am without my family.

Around the same time, I became obsessed with photography and have gone down a path of self-expression, inquiry, and introspection that has led to a self-published book, 1 book published through Static Age Zines with another one on the way, and two features through the Kodak social channels.

* Write, design, and implement deliverables for all D2C, B2C, and B2B channels.
* Design aesthetics and write copy for new product launch initiatives to be shared through one-pagers, landing pages, and all social and email content assets.

* Migrated from Mailchimp to Klaviyo and increased list size by 5 times

Operations and Marketing Manager

Seaside Market exists as a cornerstone of the Cardiff by the Sea community. They pride themselves in their customer service and serving the local community in the best way possible. My role there began as a simple cashier attending to the locals of the North County, San Diego community. This position quickly grew into becoming designated as a primary opener. This entailed:
• Counting all of the money daily
• Assuring the store is in perfect shape for all of the coming customers
• And interacting with over 300 people a day after their time grocery shopping
As a supervisor at Seaside Market, the role entails maintaining the cohesiveness, the look of the store, and handling any Customer relations. Directly supervising over 25 people, and keeping tabs on the rest of the store at the sime time. Additionally, the role calls for:
• Managing with the whole store during the last hours before we close and/or after the owners have left for the day
• Handling the money at the end of the day
• Maintaining weekly orders
• Scheduling the front end employees

Supervisor

Alliance is a niche media agency launched out of a passion for action sports. Gather data on their existing social media accounts, implement SEO practices, and proofread magazine articles. 
• Create style sheets to maintain continuity in their posts going forward
• Backfill many of their older posts to stay relevant and continue to grow their following
• Map out potential Facebook and Instagram advertisement reach

Social Media

As an Activity Leader, I oversaw the City of Berkeley public skate park and its patrons, enforced the rules of the park and was the main point of contact during emergencies, such as accidents and injuries. I instructed skateboard clinics that the City of Berkeley hosts on bank holidays, where my responsibilities included teaching campers ages 7-16 the basics of skateboarding in a controlled environment. In 2014, I also co-coordinated an 8-week Summer Skate Camp, instructing campers’ ages 7-16, and overseeing 4-5 other instructors.

Activity Leader

Stella Carakasi is an apparel company based out of Berkeley, California. My primary role was to support the Marketing Department with their online store and web presence. I used Microsoft Excel for data entry and cleanup, Photoshop and InDesign to create line sheets and crop photos, and helped update the site and create promotional pieces with the information and product images.

Marketing Intern

I transitioned from Camper to Volunteer to Instructor to Coordinator of the UC Berkeley Summer Skate Camp over a 3-year period. As an Instructor, I taught campers age’s 8-16 skateboarding basics in a controlled environment. As a Coordinator, I managed a staff of 10 Instructors and Volunteers, ensuring that there was enough staff for the amount of campers present, scheduling private lessons, and running camp activities.
